Why We've Developed Orthopaedic Immediate Care
Simply put, the formation of our Orthopaedic Immediate Care program, came in response to serious flaws that we had identified in the typical treatment timeline. This brief article will outline those flaws, as well as the solution which we developed.
Before launching our immediate care program, it was frankly unheard of for a patient to be seen by an orthopaedic specialist within a week or more of having sustained an injury, let alone within the same day.
Moreover, evidence suggests that scheduling a doctor's appointment is only becoming more delayed. A 2017 survey conducted by MerritHawkins, found that the wait-time in scheduling a new patient physician appointment, has jumped 30% since 2014 - from 18.5 days to 24 days. As one can reasonably imagine, a lot can happen over the course of 24 days. Which is why many injured patients are forced to go to the emergency room after sustaining an injury.
Anyone who has ever visited the emergency room for a non-fatal injury, knows that they will absolutely not be seen right away- far from it. Additionally, the associated fees are nothing to scoff at. In fact, a Recent Study funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) found that the average ER fee for outpatient conditions was $1,233 - 40% more than the average American pays in rent each month.
We certainly don't blame people for utilizing the ER; As far as they know, it is the only immediate treatment option. Thankfully, that isn't the case anymore.
MidAmerica Orthopaedics' Immediate Care is not just a service, it's a solution. We've introduced a resource to society, which allows you, your family members, friends, employees, etc. to be seen by an orthopaedic specialist at THE ONSET of an acute injury.
